Not Quite Write Contest Update
This year, I signed up for an annual pass for Not Quite Write, a quarterly flash fiction competition based in Australia. This contest asks writers to develop, write, and revise a 500-word story based on three prompts in just 60 hours. I’ve participated in the January, April, and July contests so far. January and April I struck out. I think there were a number of factors that contributed to my results, namely that I don’t usually write flash fiction and I was struggling to contain my story.
July, however, I made the longlist! This is great feedback, as it highlights my work as a top competitor and signals that I’m on the right track. Unfortunately, I didn’t place in the contest this time, but I’m looking forward to participating in the October contest! I also plan to do some light revisions on this story and start shopping it around for possible publication elsewhere.
